The Studio Around the Corner has partnered with the Master Gardeners of Putnam County to bring gardening programs and a community garden to the Village of Brewster at the Garden Around the Corner.

You are invited to be a part of our healthy gardening community. Learn how to grow healthy organic vegetables, have fun gardening and help us maintain the garden throughout the growing season.

Growing your own food can be a very satisfying and it can pay off in a number of ways:
·       Your fruits and vegetables are fresher,
·       You can save substantial amounts of money over purchasing them at the grocery or farmers' markets,
·       And, you know you are eating healthy pesticide-free food.

Families or individuals can volunteer for 1 week to weed, water, and donate vegetables during the growing season to the Community Action Partnership in Brewster.

The volunteer program starts on Sunday, May 20, 3:00-4:00 PM with a What’s Growing Now class at the Garden Around the Corner and ends on Saturday, September 22, a total of 18 weeks.

About the Garden

The Cultural Arts Coalition will begin its new Garden Around the Corner, an organic vegetable garden, on the grounds directly outside of the studio. The Studio Around the Corner is located at the back entrance of 67 Main Street in Brewster.

The students at Longview will partake in a program entitled “Seeds to Salad”. They will plant, care for and harvest the ingredients necessary for a salad party in June. The rest of the garden will contain plants that will help support the families using the services of Putnam CAP. Judy Marano said, “We will begin with the students from our weekly Community Connection ESL program to get the ball rolling on the garden and with the help of Cornell Co-op holding classes monthly this summer, we hope to encourage families in the area to grow their own gardens.”
