The Old Town Hall Theatricals

Picture
Auditions for The Cottage by Sandy Rustin (Performance dates April 17-25th)

DATES/TIMES: Auditions: Saturday, January 24th 1-4pm and Monday, January 26th 7-9pm. Callbacks (if necessary) Tuesday, January 27th.

LOCATION: Old Town Hall Theater, 67 Main Street in Brewster, NY - go up the big stairs into the theatre. Parking free and ok in the alley between the theatre and the Brewster Public Library, and metered parking on Main Street.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS*:

SYLVIA: (CAST) Mid 20’s-40’s, any ethnicity, female - A lovely and rash romantic. Married to Clarke, having a long term one night a year affair with Beau, Clarke's brother. BRITISH RP ACCENT

BEAU: (CAST) Mid 20’s-late 40’s, any ethnicity, male - Perhaps the best looking man in Britain. Married to Marjorie, has once a year affair with Sylvia and a more involved affair with Deirdre, the cad. Older brother of Clarke. BRITISH RP ACCENT.

MARJORIE: Mid 20’s-40’s, any ethnicity, female - EXTREMELY PREGNANT, pragmatic and a tad spicy. Unflappable in every sense of the word. Married to Beau, having an affair (and then some) with Clarke, Beau's brother. Excellent dry comic timing. BRITISH RP ACCENT.

CLARKE: Mid 20’s-late 40’s, any ethnicity, male - Distinguished gent with a lover’s spirit. He’s kind-hearted and endlessly polite, while maintaining the very British “stiff upper lip.” Beau's younger brother, married to Sylvia, having an affair with Marjorie. BRITISH RP ACCENT.

DEIRDRE: 20’s-early 30’s, any ethnicity, female - An awfully pretty, sometimes wise, nincompoop. Easily confused and occasionally brilliant, Deirdre is a gullible gal navigating who and what she perceives as higher-class folks. Also having an affair with Beau, and wants more. Young, scrappy, and thirsty. BRITISH ACCENT (RP that slides into WORKING CLASS the more drunk she gets)

RICHARD 30’s-40’s, any ethnicity, male - A murderous, yet gentle soul. A little rough around the edges with a sensitive heart, Richard has built a life on lies and is trying to find his way back to the love of his life. BRITISH ACCENT (WORKING CLASS)

* All of the roles involve physical intimacy (kissing and moments of romantic chemistry/passion). DEIRDRE and RICHARD also require handling/use of a prop gun. Set in 1923 in the British countryside, and it's a farce, so we're not talking modern-day sex and violence!

This very British 1920's farce has razor-sharp pacing and requires consistent British accents, strong comedic timing and physical comedy from each cast member.

Bring your headshot and resume and any conflicts from Feb 2nd - April 25th. You may prepare a one minute comic monologue with a British accent, but it's not absolutely necessary. You can also read a monologue! We know people are busy and we are quite grateful for your time. Sides will be provided at the audition.

Email [email protected] if you would like us to e-mail you the sides beforehand.

A comment from a new "Theatrical," after her first show with us:

"So looking forward to working / playing with you again!!!   I’d love to help you guys in any way I can!
Haven’t LOVED working on a show this much in decades!!!"
- - - -
Kind words from our good friend Anthony Valbiro, Artistic Director for the Harrison Players:

"It is important - SO important - to acknowledge when things 'are being done' for the arts. Especially now.

Stephanie Schleicher, Daniel Basiletti and Jill Paxton (and their whole crew of actors, stage hands, carpenters, and artists) are making a difference in bringing to life this lovely ancient venue that deserves to breathe - to live for the arts.

They are working on a shoestring.  They are filled with joy at what they are doing - out of nothing.  Because out of nothing comes everything.

I am so proud of these theatre warriors - so proud.

Go next weekend - it's wonderful. They are creating THEATRE.

Bravo, Brava!"
