Garden ARound the Corner 2021
The Garden Around the Corner is open for a new season! Moving forward from these unprecedented times, we want to encourage you to get in touch with nature. With this new series of workshops, we want to teach people how to start their own garden and produce their own food.
The Kathryn Davis Scholars invite you to register for this free series of 3 workshops, where you will learn the foundations to build your own garden! Once a month, we will come together to demonstrate and share our gardening techniques. The first session will be on March 27th. This session will be remote, and it will cover starting seeds indoors and different techniques for small indoor gardening. The next two sessions will be in person at the Studio Around the Corner, following all covid safety protocols! In the second session (April 17th), we will be learning about soil preparation, garden planning, and early crops. The last session (May 8th) will be the moment to learn about different garden techniques. We will also sow some seed and transplant the seedlings. At the end, you can take home some seeds to start your own garden!

Garden Around the Corner 2020
Since 2017, the Town of Southeast Cultural Arts Coalition (TOSCAC), in partnership with Putnam County Cornell Cooperative Extension, has presented gardening programs and a community garden to the Village of Brewster. The magical Garden Around the Corner is located on the grounds directly outside of the Studio Around the Corner, located at the back entrance of 67 Main Street in Brewster off the parking lot between the Old Town Hall and the library. The Coalition has been a partner in the Seed to Supper Program to address food security in Putnam County along with the Brewster Public Library, Putnam Community Action Partnership, Longview School, Patterson Library, and Camp Herrlich.
In the spring of 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions shut-down plans for the community garden until May 15 when New York Governor Andrew Cuomo reopened certain low-risk businesses, including landscaping and gardening and certain outdoor recreational activities statewide. Nonetheless, in 2020 this small garden produced over 250 pounds of vegetables for the Putnam Community Action Partnership food pantry. It is surprising how productive small urban garden can be!
Growing fresh organic vegetables at the Garden Around the Corner would not be possible without a dedicated team of volunteers to water each day and care for the garden. Master gardener Anita Conway collaborates in planning the garden and coordinates the team of volunteers: Carmen Serrano, Laurie Spens, Liana Gertzer, Michele Carlson, Noreen Mahoney and Susan Horan.
